abstract Information Technology departments play a crucial role in technology deployment within their respective agencies. The head of a government IT department is usually responsible for how ICT can be used to realize strategic goals of the agency, including formulating and implementing the agency's vision of Electronic Government. The aim of this module is to provide IT Heads with an overview of six concrete technologies for enterprise software development, particularly suitable for Electronic Government applications: Unified Modeling Language, Java Programming Language, Distributed Programming with Java, Extensible Markup Language, Web Services and Java Enterprise Technology. The presentation follows a sequence of examples to introduce basic concepts and applications of these technologies.

Background

Niyi received his Bachelor of Science degree (Combined Hons) in Computer Science and Economics, from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile -Ife in 1990. He is a Nigerian. He is married with children.

Position(s) Held

Niyi is currently a Senior manager in the Accenture Lagos practice. He is also a member of the Strategic IT Effectiveness Service Lines.

Work Experience

Niyi joined the firm in 1995 with 4 years of experience in the Nigerian IT industry implementing business solutions based on Unix, Oracle and TCP/IP networks for clients in the financial and utilities industries. Since joining the Firm he has worked on various IT Effectiveness projects and has evaluated and redefined IT for clients in various industries addressing issues of multi-channel delivery, technology platform choices and IT efficiency including IT Systems implementation and management of complex change program involve above 20 IT-based projects

  • Development and implementation of IT Strategy, IT Security Strategy and Communications Network Strategy for some commercial banks in Nigeria.
  • Implementation of information technology effectiveness initiatives for some commercial banks in Nigeria.
  • Program manager for a business transformation effort for the largest banks in Nigeria involving IT investments of over $20m and management of above 20 projects with a project team of over 200 people.
  • Development of a service delivery operating model for some commercial banks including IT-enabled multi-channel delivery capabilities.
  • Design of a technology architecture for commercial banks including a retail bank that has operations across the West African region and for a major tyre manufacturing company.
  • Design and implementation of data centers, help desk, local and wide area network with above 3000 network nodes for a major commercial bank in Nigeria.
  • Survey of the use of IT and data communications connectivity options for some commercial banks in Nigeria.
  • Design, development and Implementation of banking application packages for some commercial banks in Nigeria.
  • Business process review, redesign and implementation for some commercial banks in Nigeria.
