This presentation examines e-governance research.
It starts by establishing a definition for e-governance based on
major conceptualizations. The inter-disciplinary nature of the
e-governance is discussed with the view to capture the inherent
requirements for an effective e-governance research strategy.
Concrete research areas are identified. The state of e-governance
research is provided based on a typology for research types
(Descriptive, Philosophical, Theoretical, Theory Generating and
Theory Testing) and results from a recent survey.
Major conferences on e-governance and scholarly journals are
identified.
The roles of government, academia, industry and international
organizations in advancing e-governance research are discussed.
Major barriers as well as possible solutions to developing a
viable research agenda are finally discussed.
